Not Another CV
People who've been following me for a while will know that a key feature of my site has always been the dynamically generated CV button on the homepage. It's made it through multiple itterations and I'd like to think I've gotten pretty good at building that sort of thing. Something I've been asked for years however, is if I'd be willing to licence that to others so that they can have a dynamic CV on their own site.
As you might by now have guessed, I have wonderful news for those people.
In mid Decemeber 2022, I realised that I was finally in a position - personally and professionally - to pick up a major personal project. I sat down with a few of the friends and former-coworkers who had previously asked me about the CV generation and got a list of things they would want. I then set about building an inital UI to manage what I already had.
By the end of December I realised that what I had on my own site simly wasn't going to work for a wider audience. There was no way to make the UI un-clunky. The CVs were prone to breaking visually and it just wasn't going to work. As such I set about building a new version from the ground up.

By the end of January 2023, I had a really rough version written in a combination of Rust and Sveltekit that I could hand to some of those close people. It was a lot more visually stable, offered a web pased portfolio page for those who didn't have their own website and it was simple. I got amazing feedback. They liked how easy updating Jobs and Projects were. They liked the UI. It was still way to broken to even call an MVP but I felt good and so I registered a domain ( notanothercv.com ) and kept going.
I added functionality so that Not Another CV can collect metrics, in a way that respects peoples privacy, about who's downloading your CV. And slowly iterated on the tooling until it had what I considered a minimum set of features that users might need.
On the 8th of March, I registered a company. Not Another CV was now a product of Not Another Company Ltd. A massive step for those who are aware of how I started my career. It was nice to be able to rely on an old friendly company in Tide Business Bank to get it set up and start moving things to the company.
Not Another CV has been nearing a polished MVP throughout March. I've been making those last minute changes to make it stand out and constantly getting feedback. It's taken many evening and weekends to get to this point and I can only imagine how many more it will take but hearing the feedback loop I've had has been incredibly positive.
It's now Tuesday, March 14th (at time of writing). Yesterday, this site ( mikevdv.dev ) had all of its CV generation capabilities torn out. I don't need them. One of the core features in Not Another CV, is the universal embed that allows you to offer your CV download anywhere you want. I'm just another user.
My plan is to start sending out alpha invites tomorrow (March 15th). If you want one, @ me on twitter and We'll see what we can do.
For now though, I guess I can call myself a founder again.
